On a recent road trip, we stopped off at Jekyl Island, in and of itself, a lovely destination. Also on the island is the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. Very interesting and informative about turtles and terrapins, large and small.
In the picture below, we see some new hatchlings. To people most of the baby turtles look alike so they are numbered to specifically identify them.
In the photo below we see the entrance sign to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center with my two children and nannies, Katie and Moni.
In this photo here we see some larger and more mature turtles in larger tanks. In water, difficult to picture, but in real life you do get a good view of them and they mount mirrors to give you an even better look at them.
The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is an excellent half day trip and an excellent road trip excursion, not being particularly far from Interstate 95. Also nearby is Brunswick, GA and Jekyl Island itself, being off the beaten path, isn't the tourist trap that you expect from many Florida beaches.
Thumbs up on the turtles: http://www.georgiaseaturtlecenter.org/
